My ideas
So I'll get us started...I personally think that programmes like 'The Bill' give a very positive view of the police - but this is not necessarily realistic. Are the police really that great? Do they really solve every single crime? Also, 'The Bill' now focusses much more on the individual lives and relationships of the people in the force - it has almost become a soap opera. Everything is blown way out of proportion. Does this encourage people to go into the police for the excitement and glamour, rather than because they want justice? What do you think?
Welcome
Hi everyone! I've set up this blog for my media critical research project. I'm researching into whether police TV dramas have a negative impact on people's respect for authority. I'm looking at the portrayal of the police and crime in modern TV dramas, and then comparing it with the portrayal of police and crime in older TV dramas, and then drawing conclusions about whether this has affected people's view of the police. Feel free to post on my blog - all ideas are very welcome!
